The (not all) tall women behind Miss G & Me

Celebrating International Women's Day in 2025

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the resilience, creativity, and strength of women everywhere. As the solo founder of Miss G & Me, I know what it means to build something from nothing - while without industry experience, a roadmap, or the financial backing many (yes, I'll say it. men) in business take for granted, what I do have is tenacity, a love of learning, application and a clear vision to radically change the landscape of tall women's clothign options.

Women in business don’t lack ability; we face outdated systems that need exposing and acceptance that permission to update the systems is not being asked. Here’s the thing. We’re already applying our ability as business as usual. As I watch 13-year-old Miss G grow into a deliciously capable, funny, kind, intelligent young woman, I often say, if you’re not on her bus, you’re just watching it drive away.

Miss G, 13 years old.

Fashion is a female-led industry, yet it remains one of the most undervalued. The irony? It’s women’s craftsmanship, problem-solving, and innovation that keep it moving.

In Australia, the fashion and textiles sector contributes over $27.2 billion to the Australian economy, employing around 489,000 people, with 77% of the workforce being female.

It's easy to see why every Miss G & Me garment exists because of the hands, hearts, and minds of an incredible group of women who make this business what it is.

The Silent Hand of the Economy & Wellbeing

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs tells us that before we seek self-expression, we need security. And often, what a woman buys first is a litmus test for where she sits on that scale. At Miss G & Me, that piece is the Maddie Pant - our top seller, over 400 pairs have found homes to just over 300 ladies. It’s not just a wardrobe essential; it’s a quiet but powerful indicator that, right now, many women are feeling okay. The silent hand of the economy speaks through the choices they make, and today, women are choosing comfort, confidence, and quality.

A Tribute to the Women Who Shaped Us

Every Miss G & Me garment is named after a woman of significance in my life. From Ida Shirt, my nan, to Robyn Knit, my mother-in-law, Marilyn Shirt, my mum, Alva Slim Leg, my husband’s nan and Betty Jogger - global traveller and the family matriarch, Aunty Bet, these names hold stories of resilience, adventure, and love. The list continues to grow, just like the influence of the women who shape our lives.

Meet the Women Behind our Tall Women's Clothing and Miss G & Me

This business isn’t just my vision - it’s the work of an incredible team of women whose expertise and dedication bring it to life.

Dr. G – Model, Doctor, Athlete

More than just the face of Miss G & Me, bilingual Dr. G is a medical doctor and elite basketballer. She has spent her life pushing boundaries, proving that women can thrive in any field they choose. She brings strength, grace, and confidence to our campaigns, showing tall women that they, too, deserve clothes that fit and flatter.

Linda – The Most Epic Pattern Maker

With over 30 years in the fashion industry, Linda is one of Melbourne’s most highly regarded freelance pattern makers. Her skill ensures that every Miss G & Me piece is designed with precision - because tall women deserve clothes made for them, not just adapted to them.

Maria – The Production Powerhouse

Maria led her manufacturing teams for over 40 years, starting in the industry at 13, mastering every element of garment production. She even self-taught herself to repair and service commercial sewing machines, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of bringing our designs to life.

Candice - Journalist

6' Candice's groundbreaking nationally broadcasted ABC story, opened the conversation about the unique challenges and triumphs of tall women in Australia, and is a true time capsule edition. Her voice continues to resonate, reminding us all that we’re not alone, and that being tall is something to be celebrated.

Laura – The Haberdashery Expert

Laura has worked in Australian haberdashery since she was 16 years old, giving her an unmatched knowledge of fabrics, trims, and construction techniques. Other than an obsession for color matching zips and buttons, she and I share another connection - we both have 16-year-old teenagers, balancing business and motherhood in a world that still asks women to do it all.

Katey – Design & Branding Sounding Board, Artist, & Lifelong Friend

Katey isn’t just part of Miss G & Me—she’s one of my best mates. An incredibly talented artist and founder of Mesmerised baby books, she brings her creativity and insight to our branding and design direction. A beautiful piece of her artwork hangs in our Miss G & Me fitting room, a constant reminder of the strength of female friendships and the power of creative collaboration.

Our bookkeeper Natalie is a single mum running her own business, proving that women can successfully juggle career and family. She keeps our finances in order, ensuring the business stays strong and sustainable.

Sophie – The Accounting Expert

Sophie doesn’t just manage our numbers - she manages a team of experts to help others do the same. As our accountant, she provides the financial insight and strategy that keep Miss G & Me growing and thriving.

Danielle – The Digital Specialist

Behind the scenes, our web consultant Danielle ensures that Miss G & Me reaches women across Australia. Based in Sydney, she keeps our online presence sharp, functional, and engaging, making sure our customers can easily find the styles they love.

Equity for the Next Generation

The world is changing. Our children will grow up in a time where equity isn’t an idea - it’s the norm. But progress doesn’t just happen; it’s built by the choices we make today. Supporting female-led businesses strengthens communities, enriches economies, and reshapes the future.

Miss G & Me exists because of not always tall women. Women who design, create, and lead. Women who support one another, even when the world tells us to compete. Women who lift each other up, knowing that our success is shared.

Miss G and Me is the only Australian-made tall women's clothing label. Our passion for beautiful, sustainable fashion ensures that we cater to tall women, with styles that last even beyond a few washes. This article was written by our founder and designer, Penni Lamprey, who stands at 6'1".
